5 Ways To Take Excellent Care Of Your Vehicle's Air Conditioner

Driving around in the heat can be unbearable, which is why you want to make sure you take care of your vehicle's air conditioning system. There are multiple ways that you can do that and ensure you always have cool air to enjoy when you are behind the wheel.

Way #1: Turn on Your Air Conditioner Once a Week

One of the best things you can do is to make sure you use your air conditioner throughout the year. You should turn on your air conditioner in your vehicle at least once a week and allow it to run for ten to fifteen minutes.

You should do this throughout the year, even when it is cold outside. Your air conditioner uses different tools than your vehicle's heater. Turning on the air conditioner once a week will allow the compressor to turn on and will help keep the pressure inside the compressor where it should be.

For the best results, turn your AC down, so it is cold, and turn the fans up high. Giving your air conditioning system, a weekly workout will extend its usefulness.

Way #2: Run the Defrost Mode

Second, you are going to want to run the defrost mode as well once a week for about ten to fifteen minutes. Doing this at least once a week will help ensure that mildew doesn't develop inside your system and keep your system from smelling funky.

Way #3: Refresh the Cooling System

Third, at least every two years, you should refresh your cooling system. Take your vehicle to your mechanic and ask them to refresh your cooling system. They can refresh your cooling system by changing the lubricant that the system uses and refreshing the gas inside the compressor. Refreshing your cooling system is like giving it a meal; it will give your cooling system the energy it needs to keep going.

Way #4: Full Service

Finally, you should be able to get a full-service check-up every few years. Instead of just replenishing the gas and liquids that your system needs to function with a full service, they will check for leaks and damage. If any leaks or damage are detected, they will work to repair that damage. Fixing damage in the early stages can allow your air conditioner to enjoy many more miles of usage without you having to replace the entire system.

When it comes to taking care of your vehicle's air conditioning system, be sure to run your AC system, and the defrost mode at least once a week. Then, seen your local auto shop to refresh the system and get a full-service inspection every few years. Taking care of your AC system will allow you to enjoy cold air every time you are behind the wheel.
